How we verify listings

Every listing on PetCrematories starts as public business data and has to clear a check before it appears. This page explains where the data comes from, what gets a provider in or kept out, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Where does the data come from?

We collect public Google Maps business listings through a commercial search data service, running city-by-city searches for pet cremation, pet aquamation, and related terms across the US. The current snapshot was compiled in June 2026 and covers 1,512 providers in 1,020 cities across 48 states. For each provider we keep what the public listing shows: name, phone, website, location, the Google rating and review count, the business category, and any services the listing names.

What gets a listing included?

A candidate only publishes when its own public listing identifies it as a pet cremation, pet crematory, or pet aquamation service, and it clears a confidence check we run on every record. Businesses that merely showed up near those searches (groomers, pet stores, general cemeteries with no pet service) are dropped. Some included providers are veterinary practices; they appear because their listing names cremation among their services, and we label them as veterinary practices on the page.

What do we clean up or leave out?

  • Scraped text is stripped of markup and stray characters before it can reach a page.
  • Dead website links are removed. Google retired its free "business.site" pages, so we drop those URLs rather than send you to a 404.
  • Only http and https links are ever published.
  • Some listings carry only a name and a phone number. We keep those pages for completeness, but we keep them out of search engines until we can confirm more about the business. The same goes for city pages where we list fewer than three providers.

How are providers ordered?

By Google rating, then by review count, highest first. You can re-sort by review count or name on any city page. No provider can pay to be listed, ranked higher, or labeled anything. We have no business relationship with anyone in the directory.

What the ratings are, and are not

The stars you see are Google ratings left by the public, shown with their review counts so you can judge the sample size yourself:1,321 of our 1,512 listings carry at least one review, 106,128 reviews in all. We do not write reviews, collect testimonials, or score providers ourselves. A high rating is a signal from other families, not our endorsement.

How often is the directory updated?

The directory is rebuilt from a fresh data snapshot periodically, and every check above runs again on each rebuild. Between rebuilds a provider can change hours, prices, or services, so always confirm details directly with them. Each city page shows the year it was last rebuilt.

Found an error, or is this your business?

If a listing is wrong, out of date, or should not be here, or you run a pet cremation business we have missed or mislabeled, contact us. We correct or remove listings in the next rebuild.
